Taking that 1st Big Step
Today is a scary day for me. Today, I publish my website, put it out into the world. And that means my secret will be out.
It feels sort of like stepping outside your house in your cotton night shirt to pick up the paper before it gets soaked in the rain, only to find yourself locked outside – bed head, bleary-eyed, bare legs and feet, cold and exposed, and no one inside to let you back in.
Only this exposure to the world is in print.
There's no going back now. The website is out there, and now the fact that I've very quietly published my first three books will also be out there.
- The first impression – the book covers – is out there, each image I worked so hard with the illustrator to achieve that perfect balance.
- The second impression – the formatting – learned through hours of studying ebooks and You tube videos and successes and failures on my part in front of my computer.
- The third impression – the wonderful editing job done by Jason Whited, who I am so grateful to have found and have in my corner.
- Fourth impression – the stories themselves, vetted by my trusted Beta Readers, who gave me the honest and unvarnished truth.
I'm sure the books are not perfect, though it's not due to lack of effort. I looked at them until I was cross-eyed. Any mistakes left I simply can no longer see, and are mine alone.
The stories I've loved are done, my ‘character children' out there, released into the world to make it on their own now…
I hope I taught them well.
